WASHINGTON — Uber’s Dara Khosrowshahi said Wednesday that the ride-hailing app is cooperating with federal investigators who are probing the company’s deadly self-driving crash in Arizona.

The Uber CEO  said he still believes self-driving cars are a “very important part of the solution of getting rid of car ownership.”

But he did not say whether or when Uber would resume testing its own autonomous vehicles after the fatal crash in Tempe, Ariz. The company suspended tests after the accident.

Khosrowshahi said the company is aiding the National Transportation Safety Board in its investigation on why Uber’s car never noticed a woman crossing the street with her bicycle.

“Right now our total effort is helping them out and we’ll figure out what we do afterward,” Khosrowshahi said.

He added that self-driving cars “ultimately will make the world much, much safer.”

Khosrowshahi, who joined Uber in 2017 to help the company get back on track following a series of scandals, appeared at an event in Washington, D.C. to discuss the company’s heightened commitment to expanding ride services in congested cities.
